T.S. Hutton was born in Edinburgh and lived in Wavertree, Liverpool for a while before moving to Newcastle. He exhibited at major galleries throughout the British Isles and painted beautiful scenes of Northumberland, the North East coast, Yorkshire and Scotland, mainly in watercolours. He also painted at Cullercoats and Staithes.

Details of his early artistic training are not known but by the age of 27 he was exhibiting his work at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. He later moved to Newcastle and began exhibiting at the Berwick Club and later both the Royal Academy and the Scottish Academy. Many of his works are painted on small boards which are said to have come from shirt boxes. His work is represented at Shipley Art Gallery, South Shields museum and AG.

Whitby Beach Circa 1900

You can see the Victorian family on the beach at Whitby with the round house near the Pier in the background that is still there today. I have walked up and down them stairs many times myself approximately 100 years later.
